The Laughing Emperor (destroyed) by PilcrowDesigns The Laughing Emperor (destroyed) by PilcrowDesigns
some of you might remember this guy, I had to destroy him recently due to mold and he dried up for the most part.. I will recreate him one day when I can.

I wondered why I always had blood in my nose haha maybe its from this shit. I use a shop vac for clean up and a mop. But I am sure

them annoying dry clay bits are floating around, sticking to the lining of my nose.

With the mold, did you do anything to get rid of it? or just throw the clay out? I usually throw it out. But sense I been short on cash for new supplies I have had to deal with the re-use of clay more so then ever. Bleach seems to do the trick. But there are still those sections with shitty black clay in there.. I can only imagine the shit its giving me.

yeah, i generally will chunk it if its bad.  sometimes on opening a new block it will be spotty back for the start.  sometimes i'll let that slide, but when it starts getting that funky smell to it its time for it to go.  i keep a dehumidifier in the shop to being its partly underground i sometimes have to wash out my older gypsum molds with bleach if they didn't completely dry after putting latex in them before i stored them.  trying to switch over to all plastic or fiberglass molds because of that and of course the weight of them .

I have one sculpture that's a year or more old. I molded one that was a year old. My personal stuff had to take a back seat. i will say i had some mold in my shop bathroom that may have been causing my skin rashes. bathroom was remodeled and skin cleared up.

damn man, a whole year? happy to know I am not the only one that run into these issues with sculptures sitting around... Wonder what it is with this mold, that causes rashes and if it is from the clay? I'll get a rash if I sculpt without gloves on, that's normal cause the clay drys out the skin.. But usually clears up within a day of not working. Mine is finally going away after months now.. sucks if it is from sculptures sitting around too long and producing some kind of airbourne pathogen.. not sure if that's the right word, but it sounds good ;)

Oops, sorry, realized you said it was mold. You might want to try something like Classic Clay instead of water clay. I have some Classic Clay sculptures that are over ten years old and still in good condition. It's kind of expensive but worth it.

no problems. I will have to check out this clay you speak of. I never heard of it until now, so thank you. The rash and swollen eyes could be from numerous things, from a new soap to random strangers. I've had nasal problems this whole year so far.. So I am paranoid about the things around me. Not for sure its from the clay or what.

ya, I was doing that.. He was holding on for a long time. I think I roughed the head out back in October of last year. But after all this time waiting, he was really starting to stink.. I didn't know if he was also making me somewhat sick.. cause I been having breathing problems and skin rashes.. So I had to destroy him and another, hoping to reduce any cause of shit that's going on.. I don't know if I was right for sure.. But my breathing has improved and my skin has as well.. whats the longest you had something hanging around and have you ever had any type of skin/breathing issues from dealing with this stuff?

Definitely make this guy again sometime, he's so awesome! I love the coral-thing-crown and how the lower jaw has spit off with tusks (or whatever they are). Great work, as usual.
